One of the most famous walks in the Yorkshire Dales, the Ingleton Waterfall Trail offers action-packed walking along two rivers that between them offer a spectacular array of waterfalls.
The walk provides a perfect introduction to the Dales and we use it as an opener on the first half day of each of our walking holidays based in this picturesque village.
Walking the trail takes around 3 hours, allowing for the inevitable numerous photo-stops.
The well-constructed path gets us right up close and personal with these thundering cascades. The Ingleton Estate has created perfect viewpoints guarded by solid rails, and stone steps to make the going easy.
It’s even possible to sneak behind the waterfall at Thornton Force and take a view out through the curtain of water.
This is a striking landscape of weather-sculpted limestone pavement and lofty gritstone summits, and the sight of so many waterfalls is unusual here and is all thanks to a rare pocket of older, impermeable slates across which these two rivers flow as they approach Ingleton.
This is a very special area – wild moorland where curlews cry, moorland that smells of sweet, dried hay in the summer, and green valleys.
Great summer walking, great company, en-suite hotel comforts, and amazing scenery in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales…
