ITINERARY

All walking is at Moderate level (grade 3) except for during the option days where stated.

DAY 1: Join us on the arrival day by 1.30 pm for a half day local walk to get to know the others in our group and the environment close by.  For those who are unable to arrive by then, join us for dinner at 6.30 pm, after which we will talk through our planned programme.  (6 km, 3 hours walking)

DAY 2:  Our transport takes us over into the beautiful Buttermere Valley for a day walking through the wild valley of Mosedale, past the impressive Scale Force and along the shores of Crummack Water and Buttermere lake before returning to our hotel.  (15 km, 6 hours)

DAY 3: A thrilling (!!) and scenic open-top bus ride takes us into Keswick to start the day.  From there we set off to walk the full length of the Borrowdale Valley back to our hotel, along the shores of Derwentwater and via the beautifully restored Lingholm Estate.  Lake-side paths lead through ancient oak woodland to the ‘Jaws of Borrowdale’ where the mountains are at their most dramatic, before we reach the upper valley pastures and a welcome cuppa at our hotel. (15 km, 6 hours)

DAY 3 OPTION (Grade 4):  For those who fancy a tougher challenge, just choose on the day whether to join the group following the valley route just described, or a group being guided to the summit of Glaramara Mountain.  At 783m, this is one of Lakeland’s most prominent and impressive summits.  From this route we get a real sense of being among the central fells and a tougher, but rewarding ascent via Combe Gill. (16km, 7 hours)

DAY 4:  We walk a circuit of the Langstrath Valley, home of wild and beautiful locations including a long chain of idyllic pools.  Our route takes us to the picturesque Tray Dub, a crystal-clear pool and a perfect, remote lunch stop. (12 km, 5 hours)

DAY 4 OPTION (Grade 5):  Again, to offer something for those who fancy a tougher challenge, just choose on the day whether to join the group following the Langstrath Valley route just described, or a group being guided to the summit of the famous Great Gable.  At 899m, this is one of Lakeland’s highest and most famous summits.  (18km, 8 hours)

DAY 5:    We walk from the hotel to complete a circuit of the local Doat Fell taking in Scaleclose Force waterfall and the hamlet of Seatoller. This is a great route to finish on – long enough to make the most of our final day and a last chance to take in the stunning views around Upper Borrowdale.  We aim to finish our programme by 1.30 pm. (8 km, 4 hours)

Please note that the above itinerary is subject to weather conditions being favourable.  Our aim, above all, is to make the right choice each day so that we enjoy the most appropriate route for the conditions.
